Duplex ultrasound

Duplex ultrasound involves using high frequency sound waves to look at the speed of blood flow, and structure of veins.Duplex scan advantages are: high-sensitive and non-invasive method, the possibility of double research.This method is indispensable in the field of clinical neurology and vascular surgery. Cerebrovascular duplex scan makes possible to detect the carotid artery stenosis, steno-occlusive lesions of cerebral arteries, evaluate the hemodynamic and pathologic significance. Therefore, it may be used as a screening method for vertebrobasilar circulatory disorders. Currently, the duplex scanning of head and neck are the most used diagnostic methods for the detection of various pathologies of blood vessels including arteries and veins.

The Duplex Scanning of head blood vessels is performed:

• in case of acute or chronic clinical symptoms of cerebrovascular insufficiency,

• surgery planning for various cardiological pathologies (first of all, for ischemic heart disease),

• in case of the risk for cerebrovascular pathology (smoking, hyperlipidemia, diabetes mellitus),

• in case of arterial lesions

in case of disorders of adjacent tissues Transcranial duplex (TCD) is useful in case of:

• steno-occlusive disease

• Ischemic stroke

• Intracranial stenosis or blockage of the blood vessels

Cerebral microemboli Duplex Scanning of lower extremity arteries is used in case of:

• swelling of shin and/or ankle -pain and sense of

• feeling of heaviness in legs

• telangiectasia (also known as spider veins)

• venous ulcer -absence of pulse Duplex of abdominal Aortic

• Iliac and abdominal branches is used in case of

• acute and chronic abdominal diseases

• congenital anomalies of the vessels

• symptoms of the aneurysm

• pathological formations

In Astghik MC Duplex ultrasound examination is performed with General Electric Logic E10 and Canon Toshiba I 900 ultrasound systems.
